Chelsea starlet Marco van Ginkel made his first appearance since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament back in September.
The 21-year-old, who joined the Blues in the summer, picked up the injury during a Capital One Cup victory over Swindown Town.
However he has now stepped up his recovery, replacing Reece Mitchell at half-time as the side's Under-21s played out a 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
The Netherlands international came close to scoring in the second half, but saw his shot from a counter-attack saved by Ben Amos.
Van Ginkel moved to Stamford Bridge from Vitesse in the close season and had made two Premier League appearances for Jose Mourinho's side prior to his injury.
