Gareth Bale is a better signing than Neymar, according to Goal readers who voted in our poll in the lead-up to Sunday’s Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Bale joined Madrid from Tottenham in a €100 million move in the summer, while Neymar arrived at Camp Nou from Santos in a controversial transfer that is still making headlines.
Both players have had injury issues over the course of their debut seasons in Spain but have also enjoyed some impressive moments.
Ahead of the Clasico at the Bernabeu, Goal debated the merits of the two big-money signings from Madrid and Barca and then asked readers to vote on who they thought was the better buy.
After the 22,000 votes were counted, Bale was the comprehensive winner, with an overwhelming 68.7% of selections backing the Welshman. A total of 25.9% were in favour of Neymar and the remaining 5.4% of those polled were undecided.
Both players are expected to start the Clasico on Sunday, a match which sees Madrid go in as narrow favourites to win as they look to build on a four-point cushion over Tata Martino’s men.
